Safe and Reliable Drinking Water
Clean, safe drinking water is essential for every resident of Chatham. Our town has made significant progress with a new water treatment facility that removes PFAS, iron, and manganese, and provides UV treatment to ensure water quality meets state standards.
At the same time, our water infrastructure faces challenges. We currently rely on 10 wells drawing from the Monomoy aquifer, one of six lenses forming Cape Cod’s sole source aquifer. To ensure a reliable supply—especially during frequent droughts—our infrastructure needs investment. This includes drilling new wells, and exploring the adding another holding tank.
Water conservation is also critical. All residents, including those with private wells, should follow municipal water-use guidelines during droughts to protect our shared resource. It’s just about being a responsible citizen.
I support practical, forward-looking measures that ensure Chatham has clean, safe, and reliable drinking water for today and the future, while balancing conservation, infrastructure investment, and community needs.
